Safe Communities/Wellington North is a not for profit organization that started in Mount Forest on January 8, 2013. That was our first meeting and about 20 people attended to see what they could do to make Wellington North a safer place to live, learn, work and play.
Our committee is affiliated with Safe Communities/Wellington County and we participated in the official ceremony on June 20, 2013, when Wellington County was declared the 28th “Safe Community” in Ontario by Parachute, Canada. The ceremony was held in Mount Forest with students from area schools participating, as well as seniors and other members of the community. At our booth we were able to promote the “Vial of Life” program and distribute pamphlets on the risks of falls to seniors, as well as booklets on farm safety. We also handed out bags and bookmarks from Wellington North Power promoting hydro safety. Our goal was to tell residents about the “Safe Community” initiative and what we hope to accomplish in Wellington North.
